The new DMC-ZS3 Lumix features 10.1-megapixels resolution, a 25mm ultra-wide-angle lens and 12x optical zoom, which is greater than previous cameras in this series while still being smaller. The lens is a Leica DC Vario-Elmar.
Another great feature of this camera is that is the first digital camera to have feature HD video recording in “AVCHD Lite.” That means no more choppy AVI movies. This camera records HD motion images at a smooth 60 frames per second with 1280 x 720-pixel resolution.creating impressive movies and it uses less space than videos created using the .avi format. A cool feature on the Panasonic DMC-ZS3 Lumix digital camera is the Intelligent Auto (iA) mode with the addition of Face Recognition. This means that the camera learns to recoginize faces that you have taken pictures of. It will prompt you to register a person that you have several pictures of. Once a face is registered, if it appears again, the camera will display the name specified for that person and prioritize focus and exposure so that the registered face is bright and sharply focused.
Another great feature of the Intelligent Auto (IA) mode is that it automatically selects the best Scene mode as well as fixing handshake, focus and brightness problems. It features Optical Image Stabilization (O.I.S.) when taking movies which fixed handshake while zooming. Face recognition automatically detects a familiar face and adjusts focus, exposure, contrast, and skin complexion so that is produces a terrific video. The Intelligent Exposure continually monitors and adjusts for the current lighting conditions. The Intelligent Scene Selector automatically changes between Normal, Portrait, Macro, Scenery, and Low Light modes depending on the current situation to optimize visual quality.
The DMC-ZS3 Lumix features a 3-inch, high resolution 460,000-dot Intelligent LCD with a wide viewing angle, which is great for viewing pictures as well as watching videos. You can also connect to a VIERA Link-equipped Panasonic VIERA HDTV with the optional HDMI mini cable, the DMW-HDC2.

Contents recorded in AVCHD Lite can be burned directly onto a DVD disc or the software can convert contents to MPEG2 format. The user can also easily upload video to Youtube.
